New Hollywood Strike Turn: After the Book, Actors Now Also Threaten to Take to the Streets | film

filmDespite a temporary work agreement between major Hollywood studios and the union representing film and television directors, Hollywood productions threaten to come to a complete halt. In addition to the writers, the actors are now also making themselves heard. They threaten to strike if no agreement is reached within the month.

Hollywood actors threaten to strike if there is no contract yet with Hollywood’s major producers, united in the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), by June 30. 98% of the members of the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA voted in favor of the strike.

The writers and actors are concerned about the use of artificial intelligence. They fear losing their jobs because of this new technology. They also demand a five percent wage increase in the first year after the new agreement. According to the union, wages are too low due to the rise of streaming services and low inflation.

The screenwriters have been on strike for over a month. In addition to agreements on artificial intelligence and higher wages, they also want a better return if production produces more. The strike has already disrupted many projects, such as the production of late-night shows and other shows like Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Spider-Man 4.” If actors go on strike, more films and series will be delayed.
