The Washington Post reported Thursday that New York attorney Letitia James, as part of her investigation into possible tax fraud by the Trump Family Organization, wants former President Donald Trump to testify.
Regarding sources close to the file, the newspaper specifies that James asked the 45th president of the United States to make a statement in her New York office on January 7. When asked by the Washington Post, Fabian Levy as the attorney’s spokeswoman had nothing to say.
On July 1, Allen Weisberg, a confidant of Donald Trump, pleaded guilty to tax fraud in a Manhattan court. In particular, the man was accused of withholding about $1.7 million (1.5 million euros) in benefits in kind from the Trump Organization from tax authorities between 2005 and 2021. In doing so, he would have avoided paying nearly $1 million in federal and local taxes.
Weisberg was also accused of saying he was not a New York City resident to avoid taxes. The Trump Organization is accused of helping to conceal those benefits. The former Republican president risked a political “indictment” in July.
