Pokémon GO is still very popular. This was confirmed by Niantic Senior Vice President Ed Wu, who is looking to the future.
Wu describes Pokémon GO as not only healthy, but also growing Interview with Eurogamer.
“It's very special to think that Pokémon GO is about to enter the next decade. The game is not only healthy, it's growing. We've put a lot of time and energy into making sure it remains a great game with a strong foundation for the next decade.
Pokémon GO launched in July 2016, and is already almost eight years old. When the game was released, there was a huge buzz, as people took to the streets en masse.
In the lead-up to the mobile apps' 10th anniversary, according to Lu, we can expect a “refresh” for the next decade. “We are updating our avatar system with an improved experience and updated graphics – a modern system with more player customization.”
The SVP also reveals that the focus will likely be more on the original 151 Pokémon. “Now that we've surpassed the original 151 Pokémon, we're taking a coordinated look at how to bring them back.”
