West Ham are 17th in England and are fighting relegation. In Europe, things are going better: Larnaca in Cyprus had to believe it 0-2 away and 4-0 at home.
AA Gent – thanks to Gift Orban’s fastest ever European hat-trick – knocked out Basaksehir of Turkey.
West Ham were Anderlecht’s opponents in the Conference League group stage earlier this season. Purple & White lost twice by the smallest margin (0-1 and 2-1).
Anderlecht surprised favorite Villarreal yesterday in Spain and rewarded Belgium and the Netherlands against Arizona, who beat Lazio 2-1 twice. Zinho Vanheusden’s team ranks first in the Netherlands: it is third behind Feyenoord and Ajax, but ahead of PSV.
If the two Belgian teams qualify for the semi-finals of the Conference League, they will meet there.
Since Anderlecht and Union (in the European League) play their matches at Lotto Park, Anderlecht had to change their order. After all, AZ-Anderlecht came first, but priority was given to the Union vice-champion.
For example, AA Gent and Anderlecht play for the first time at home on April 13, and the second leg a week later on April 20. The semi-finals will be held on May 11 and 18. The final will take place on June 7 at the Eden Arena in Prague.
The other two matches in the quarter-finals of the Conference League are Lech Poznan-Fiorentina and Basel-Nice.
