There has been a lot of buzz in Rijswijk about the new PMD wheelie boxes being delivered to 2300 addresses in Steenvoorde Zuid, De Strijp and Bomenbuurt. This week, the municipality responded to more than 200 emails of complaints sent to the municipality by residents.
There have been several speakers who have addressed the council members on this subject, including Mrs. van Polgeest who lives in Steenvoordelaan. “We don’t have room for these containers and soon all of these containers will be on the street.”
Frustration is high
During the speech, the speaker’s frustration grew: “The Rijswijk municipality’s website also states that our permits will be blocked for public containers because we have to use our own containers. For years we’ve been clearing up all the mess left by the Rijswijks high school guys. Where should we go with that now?” We did that years ago and we can’t do that anymore.”
Who comes up with this?
The speaker also notes that containers that will soon be placed on the street due to lack of space on the lanes will become targets for vandalism: “The containers will soon be on the road or thrown at our cars, or worse, set on fire. Whoever comes up with this, because it makes no sense.” truly! “
The majority of the council members want him to stop
During the council meeting, the political party Rijswijks Belang submitted a request to stop the “new collection” immediately because the residents had already separated waste. The application was supported by Beter voor Rijswijk and Wij. And VVD Rijswijk and CDA Rijswijk, so that the proposal has already received the majority of votes in advance. The parties want to see where the utility and necessity of this combination method lie.
Back to the drawing board
The parties to the council demand the executive director of the municipality to enter into discussions with the residents of the neighborhoods that will face the new collection method, and to include the results of the discussions in the reconsideration. This also means neighborhoods that previously received containers. Everyone who needs to think well should be given the space to do so.
Pull the emergency brake
Marc Weterings from Rijswijks Belang: “Now we really have to pull the emergency brakes on this project. The municipality posted something went completely wrong. This is not about a handful of people, but hundreds of people who got scammed here. The boxes need to be removed.”
Rijswijkers can’t choose
Ed Braam of Beter voor Rijswijk: “The underground container will become the standard for waste collection. In neighborhoods where this is so well regulated, it is curious that now there is a message in the mail that a container with a T-Mobile roof will be delivered and pushed through the bin. Precisely because a few years ago there was a similar situation with regard to a paper container. Then a large or small container could be chosen. Now Rijswijker is not given any choice.”
I pressed on the throat
Anthony Zoghbi from Wij Rijswijk: “We are confident that the municipality is committed to sustainability and waste segregation. But of course communication is not good in this way. There must be a lively approach and the population must be listened to. The process should be paused and the residents should be consulted about their wishes. Residents feel the containers being shoved down their throats.”
Support is completely gone
Koen Sledring from VVD Rijswijk: “We don’t want to burden citizens with all sorts of hassles. Support for the new group is tight. things for a while and to consult with the citizens.”
The connection is broken
Mino van Eck from the CDA: “You come home from a week’s holiday because the new containers are stored above the ground without any consultation. Nobody can get rid of these containers. How do we prevent the gap between politicians and residents from widening? We need to restore trust with the population.” GroenLinks Rijswijk and PvdA Rijswijk also see that the connection has not gone well and think this should be improved.
Constantijn Dolmans from D66 Rijswijk: “Often residents do not understand the need and are angry that they have to give up more space for containers. Avalex does not give you the option to refuse clicks. This is possible in other municipalities. The question is why residents do not opt for this?
College apology
Mark Witt is actually the alderman in charge of the matter, but he was not present during the meeting. That’s why alderman Armand van de Laar spoke about it. Van de Laer: “A generous and sincere apology to all the people who have had to deal with this from the Executive Board. Something went wrong in communication. The export made people feel robbed. This is not what we want to defend. The policy is to provide a high level of service at home for the waste Separated. And low service to transfer it to the underground container. The in-house container achieves good results in terms of proper segregation of waste. This is good for the environment and therefore also good for our wallet.” Van de Laar points out that waste that does not belong in containers is often dumped into the container underground. By collecting it at home, people feel that the waste is better separated. “
Subtraction can be stopped. How to do this is not yet clear
The alderman at the meeting indicated that it would be examined whether the wheeled bins could be decommissioned for the time being in response to residents’ complaints. What that will look like after that remains to be seen. The offering is scheduled to close on June 30. So it is possible that now there will be an order to put the containers in tomorrow, but the municipality will do everything possible to ensure that this does not happen.
