In October 2020, Tom and Danielle van Leeuwen bought a beautiful, dilapidated old mansion with two bodegas and a large garden in Rodriguelo, Penoso, Alicante. A 3-year renovation has transformed the 250-year-old building into a successful building Bed and breakfast in Pinoso, Alicante. Follow the adventures of this couple in their Spanish life.
Blog No. 100, what a milestone!! When we started writing we did not expect this. At first we had enough inspiration. The renovation, all the building issues and how we got the B&B permit, but what are we going to write about when it's all more or less finished. It turns out we still experience a lot to write about and your readers appreciate it. thank you for this! We will continue to share our lives for a while.
The two lions are on vacation and walking around Tenerife. We have a serviced apartment in the north of Tenerife. It's beautiful here! Temperatures are nice and especially in the evening it is still warm enough to sit on the terraces without a jacket. It's quite touristy, but in a nice way. The south seems to be very touristy, because most tourists land there by plane and many cruise ships arrive there. There were protests from locals last week against the construction of new large hotels and the large influx of tourists changing their island. It's understandable in itself, but tourists also bring some economic benefits. Many people have a job in tourism and thus make a living from this work. So a bit of a weakness…
All of the Canary Islands were formed by volcanoes. The volcano on Tenerife is El Teide. Many people advised us in advance to go up the volcano. Fortunately, this is possible by car, and they were right, it is a very special, exotic and beautiful landscape! This holiday feels very special to us. For the first time in many years, we have a little more budget for the holiday, and we don't have to hand over every dime three times. We took a nice boat trip. Dolphins and whales live wild in the waters between Tenerife and the neighboring island of La Gomera and we went there by boat. We saw quite a few dolphins and two different types of whales. One whale we spotted was 16 meters long. Very impressive!
A visit to a banana plantation is on tomorrow's agenda. With us in Pinoso and many other places in mainland Spain, you can buy two types of bananas. In addition to the “regular bananas” that you also see in the Netherlands and Belgium, there are bananas for sale that are grown in the Canary Islands. We will enjoy our vacation in the coming days. Hasta Luigo, Tom and Danielle.
