Palestinians Pay American Bullet That Kills Palestinian-American Journalist | Abroad

The Palestinian Authority has handed over the bullet that killed prominent American-Palestinian Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aghle in May to the United States. U.S. investigators must use expertise on the bullet to determine whether the Israeli military was responsible. Palestinian lawyer Akram al-Khatib announced this on Saturday.

Palestinian sources in Ramallah said the expertise would be held at the US embassy in Jerusalem. After the trial, the prosecutor said the bullet would be returned to the Palestinians.

Abu Aqle was killed while reporting on an attack by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank. She wore a bulletproof vest marked “Press” and a protective helmet.

The American newspaper ‘The New York Times’ also confirmed that the bullet came from the direction of an Israeli military vehicle. The Times said there were no armed Palestinians in the area when the shooting occurred. Israeli authorities tried to blame the Palestinians immediately after the incident. However, the newspaper said it could not confirm that the Israelis fired deliberately and/or targeted the journalist: it could not be determined whether the shooter could see Shireen Abu Aghle’s press vest.
