Razvan Lucescu has been coaching PAOK Thessaloniki since July 2021. He already visited Gent two years ago, and is now playing in the quarter-finals of the Conference League against Club Brugge. It will be a tough battle on Thursday evening, the coach has already spoken.
PAOK Thessaloniki should try to secure a 1-0 home win against Club Brugge. This will certainly be an added advantage given the huge support provided by enthusiastic Greek supporters. The Greeks made an impression in the previous round.
They won 5-1 at home to Dinamo Zagreb, having previously trailed 2-0 in Croatia. It should therefore also be possible for Club Brugge to force qualification.
However, Razvan Lucescu does not want to compare the match against Club Brugge with the match against Zagreb. The 55-year-old Romanian coach of PAOK is happy to transfer the hot potato and role favorite to the Blue and Black.
A strange reference to the calendar
Lucescu said in his press conference: “The pressure is less for us. Club Brugge is the favorite and the calendar is in their favor as well. They did not have to play last week, while we had to play three times.”
Interesting details: This weekend, PAOK Thessaloniki did not play at all in the Greek League, while Club Brugge played in the top match with Antwerp. I wonder if extra fitness could provide a boost.
