Matthew Trentin is the odd one out. The Italian player suffered a serious fall on Monday, but investigations ruled out a concussion. Last night Trentin was not feeling well and the team derailed him.
“After consulting with the team doctor this morning, it has been decided that he will not start the day. In this way we will try to speed up his recovery through the matches that are still waiting for us,” the team said.
For many other riders, the flu or another virus appears to be the culprit. Yves Lambert is an absorbent for sinusitis. Lambert was already coughing after his trial yesterday (see video below). Zdenek Stybar is the second victim in Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl.
Nelson Bowles suffers from bronchitis, and Gyno Meder also has problems with his respiratory system.
At Israel-Premier Tech, the fence is completely separated from the levee. The team had already lost 3 passengers and today James Piccoli, Karl-Friedrich Hagen and Tom Van Asbruck are still sick in the hotel. Only Hugo Hall is still in the race.
Dylan Groenwegen (fall), Nils Polit (sinusitis), Kevin Vermeerek (patient), Clement Champusin (influenza) and Amory Cabeute (sick) also left the stage race for various reasons.
