Paul Magnet (PS) threatens a rotating majority in the Walloon Parliament to obtain a master’s degree in medicine from the University of Mons | internal

PS President Paul Magnette threatened on Wednesday to use a surrogate majority in the Walloon Parliament to organize a master’s degree in medicine at the University of Mons without the support of the MR. He explained it on Signature on RTL-TVi.

“I will go to extremes. And if necessary, we will vote by an alternative majority in the Parliament of the French Community. Because we cannot prevent Hainaut from developing,” says Magnette. “I hope that the master will come to his senses and understand that he cannot single-handedly prevent a file on which there is absolute consensus in Heino.”

The possible introduction of a master’s degree in medicine at the University of Mons has divided the majority of PS-MR-Ecolo in French society for weeks. Currently the University of Bergen organizes only the Bachelor of Medicine degree, but from now on it wants to also organize the Master’s program. Today, in French-speaking Belgium, this only occurs at ULB, UCL, and ULiège. However, Minister of Education Valerie Gallatini (MR) opposed it, but once she made her opposition clear in the media, voices from coalition partners PS and Ecolo criticized the lack of consultation.
