After an exceptional Paris-Roubaix edition, Dylan van Barel deservedly crowned himself by winning the Hell Classic title. It now appears that the Dutchman also posted the highest average speed ever in the Spring Classic.
In addition to the traditional cobblestone cup, Dylan Van Barley also added a record tree to his palm today. The Ineos Grenadiers racer has ridden 45,792 km/h in the fastest version since the event was founded in 1896.
Over the years, the record has been regularly passed from one winner to the next. For example, Greg van Avermaet was the record holder for the day with his victory in 2017 (45.204 km/h).
Evolution is of course not illogical. In recent years, great strides have been made in the materials and bikes used. Favorable climatic conditions certainly played in Van Barley’s favour.
List of record holders over the years:
- 45,792 km/h: Dylan Van Barley in 2022 (257.2 km).
