During the demonstration against Corona measures on Sunday, RTBF journalist Eric Poiver was attacked by a group of protesters. Boever had pepper spray all over his face, his employer is filing a complaint.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels, where the rally against the use of the Covid Safe Ticket (CST) in Brussels ended. Eric Poiver, a journalist for the Walloon public television station RTBF, gave a report on the demonstration when a group of protesters recognized him.
They approached him and brought him pepper spray. According to a video of the accident, Poiver got things in the face while being verbally abused, after which he was rushed to the hospital.
In a press release, RTBF said it considered the facts “outrageous”. “Verbal and physical aggression is becoming more and more common. With us, but also in other European countries. Expressing an opinion in an organized demonstration is right, and reporting it completely independently and without pressure is a democratic basis.”
