Question period is combined with journalists as a media spectacle on state television with a television program through which citizens can express their problems. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the question-and-answer session will begin around 12 noon local time. State media reported that more than a million and a half questions had already been asked.
The media event is receiving great attention due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The broadcast will last three hours, although according to Peskov, there is no specific end time for the broadcast. In contrast to Putin’s previous press conferences at the end of the year, this time there were no formal certification procedures. The Kremlin only extended invitations to journalists they selected themselves.
The press conference and citizen questions are usually held separately. The country’s many problems, such as poverty, poor health care and inadequate infrastructure, are often discussed. People may also expect answers about the war in Ukraine. Putin, who has led Russia for nearly a quarter of a century, has used this tactic in the past to portray himself as the type who “cares and solves problems.”
“Creator. Award-winning problem solver. Music evangelist. Incurable introvert.”
