Six out of six for KRC Genk. The Limburgers had a worry-free evening on Sunday against KV Kortrijk and won 4-0 thanks to goals from Josef Paintsil (twice), Jera Sor and Brian Heinen.
After the three-pointers against Eupen (1-3) and the win over Kokariki (2-0) in the Conference League, Genk have now proven (too much) too strong for bottom-of-the-table Kortrijk. The West Flemings – without the injured Abdelkaher Kadiri – were unable to resist at all.
The home team’s intentions also became immediately clear. We didn’t even have two minutes before the first big chance came. After a very short back pass, Suhr, once again in the striker’s position in Genk, could only get close to Vandenberghe. However, the Nigerian was unable to get past the Kortrijk goalkeeper.
Jenk continued to create. Al-Khanoos almost found Fadira. Heinen’s head was enlarged. The inevitable 1-0 score finally came in the 23rd minute. Al-Khanous sent Soor wonderfully deep with his outside foot. The Nigerian passed a cross to Bentsil, who scored on two occasions. A little later, Heynen was close to Genk’s second goal from long range.
The score was 2-0 shortly after the end of the first half. Hrosowski sent Sor with lightning speed into the corridor and this time he did not fail. The game was played, as the 3-0 score did not take long to arrive. After some fumbling in the box, Paintsil was able to make the swing. For the winger, it was his sixth goal in this competition after a slow start.
Paintsil was aiming to score a hat-trick. When Mambasi brought down Vadera in the box, he was more than happy to take the penalty. Misunderstanding, he allowed Heinen to shoot the ball, but the Genk captain did not care and scored 4-0 from the penalty spot. Because Owen, Bonsuu Bah and Hrosowski failed to deepen the score further, it was over.
Thanks to the victory, Genk is level with Antwerp, which is in fourth place, with 31 points. Kortrijk, who got 2 out of 27 on his move, remains last.
