Razer Co-Founder and Gaming Mouse Champion Robert Krakow Dies – Gaming – .Geeks

Robert Krakow, co-founder of gaming hardware company Razer, passed away last week at the age of 81. Krakow, better known in the gaming community by its nickname RazerGuy, was seen as one of the founders of the modern gaming mouse.

Prior to Razer’s actual founding, Krakoff put the gaming accessory market on the map with what would later be called Razer Boomslang. The gaming mouse was a special product in the late 1990s; With a 2000 dpi, the Boomslang was able to feel much more responsive than the competition mice. Partly due to its practicality for gamers, the mouse was marketed by Krakoff as “designed for the specific needs of hardcore gamers”.

The mouse was initially launched under Razer as a sub-brand of Kärna. Razer was not actually established until 2005 as an independent company by Krakoff and his business partner Min-Liang Tan. Since then, the company has grown into a multinational gaming hardware. In 2021, a turnover of more than 1.5 billion euros was booked.

Although Krakow served as Chairman Emeritus of Razer until his death, he was active in other industries as well. He founded MindFX Science, a company that claims to offer healthy alternatives to nutritional supplements and sports drinks. He also wrote nine fiction and nonfiction books and played football for the Los Angeles Rams in the 1960s.
