Standard were very strong on Isefi before the break and were leading 2-0. After the break, Zulte Waregem tried to change course and with a great goal from Fadera it got exciting again. Standard missed opportunities and this cost them dearly. N’dour made it 2-2 in the final stage. Roche missed the opportunity to put pressure on Club Brugge again. Essevee takes the other final straw.
No surprises in the Standard starting lineup. Deela chose the expected names. With the visitors, new coach D’Hollander opted to field Bostin rather than Bossuth in goal. Immediately the 29-year-old goalkeeper’s first competitive minutes since the 2-0 defeat against STVV, which also dates back to December 27, 2022. The Lender were also allowed to start over. Romins remained on the bench like that.
D’Hollander did not herald a revolution and in recent days mainly tried to bolster confidence in a good outcome. Miroshi was very excited, but that translated into very daring tackles, and thus was shown a yellow card early on after a big tackle on Balikuecha. The home team quickly had the ball, but Zinckernagel first headed wide and moments later a Donnum cross was too hard for Balikwisha.
Isefi already knew that a tough evening awaited them and before the first quarter was over, the Liège crowd could cheer for the first time: Alzette served some fine Fossi hitting Bustin with a cross shot. His celebration – a five-fold flip flop – was equally beautiful. (Read more below the image)
Zsolt Waregem tried to respond quickly and when N’dour scored it suddenly calmed down in Liège, but Vadera was offside beforehand and referee Butterberg denied the goal. What followed was a string of Liege tries on goal, but Zinckernagel and Cimirot were still not clear. Every now and then Esefe tried to escape the pressure, but creating goal chances all together was not an option for the visitors.
The second goal before the end of the first half
Just before half-time, the visitors conceded for the second time when Dusen’s corner kick from Dunum smashed hard past the ropes. Zulte Waregem was at the time with only ten men because Villa needed care shortly before she collided with Boukadi. As a result, Brüls had to attempt to capture the powerful Dusssnee. An unequal fight and Bustin had to give up immediately the second time: 2-0, Dosin … (Read more below the image)
The picture of the match in the first half also perfectly symbolizes Isefi’s season, marked by errors, incompetence and a good dose of bad luck. In the first half the game seemed already decided. Standard, who saw Club Brugge lose 1-0 in Kortrijk in the evening, didn’t come out of the dressing room too sharply and were very lucky when N’dour fired wide from close range right after the break.
This early warning ensured that the Roches were promptly back on their feet. Essevee was also unable to organize a full attack after the break. The visitors suffered an unnecessary loss of the ball often for the sake of it. Check out the adult standard and calmly wait for her moment. This certainly did not benefit the show value of the duel.
The target risk is minimal
Midway through the second half, Zulte Waregem was threatened with a goal, but Brulls kicked the ball half a meter past the cage of Bodart, who also had a quiet evening. Dunnum then once again conjured up great old magic in the hostile sixteen, but his movement was nipped in the cradle in the extreme by visiting defense with combined forces. Zulte Waregem continued looking for the goal connecting with the courage of desperation and after Janou could not tap in a cross from Ndour that surprised Bodart, it was the strike moments later when Fadera surprised her friend and opponent with a wonderful goal (2-1). Standard immediately got a chance to close the match again, but Perica, Donnum and Fossey failed to score at the same stage.
Boston is strong
It rained goals from Liege in the final quarter, but the liberating third goal didn’t want to fall. Thanks to the vigilant Bostyn, Zulte Waregem can continue to cherish a point. D’Hollander also threw in the forward Braem. Boudart hit Vossen’s header just under the crossbar.
Then the time came: Brules opened well on N’Dour and made it 2-2. Essevee was actually on the brink of a draw, while the Roches saw a logical win slip away. However, the mighty Bustin was needed with a powerful header from Brica. Standard still insisted, but the best chance was still there for Vossen, but Bodart stood firm.
