A big loss for Anderlecht and the Red Flames. Laura De Neve suffered a knee injury during the Belgians’ win over England – opening the score with a free-kick. The ruling is harsh: the defender must undergo surgery and will be out of action for at least five months.
Red Flame Laura De Neve (29) has been sidelined for almost five months with a serious knee injury. Her club RSC Anderlecht made the announcement on Twitter on Monday.
The defender helped the Red Flames team a week ago in the Women’s Nations League to a 3-2 win over European champion and World Cup champion England.
In the ninth minute, De Neve converted the ball from a free kick into the goal, making the score 1-0. However, she then withdrew due to a serious right knee injury. It is related to a tear in the medial ligament, as De Neve himself reported on Instagram. You will soon go under the knife.
Sometimes you just have bad luck.
Red Flame told her story on social media: “From the 8th minute (it should have been that way) I beat the best goalkeeper at the moment, until the 36th minute” I felt pain that I recognized and quickly realized was not normal.
“Injuries are not always related to fatigue or fitness. Sometimes it’s just bad luck. The verdict again is a medial ligament tear, but this time in the right knee. First surgery and then after that.”
“People think I’m crazy, but I love this stupidity games “I’m already looking forward to the day I’m back in purple and white.”
So the women of the RSCA will have to do without their leader and patron in defense in the coming months. Without De Neve, Anderlecht lost the top-flight match to leaders OH Leuven on Saturday, 1-3. The OHL is in the lead with 22 out of 24. Anderlecht is in third place with 14 points.
National coach Yves Sernels will also not be able to call on De Neve for a long time. The Belgians will host Scotland in the UEFA Nations League on December 1, followed by an away match against the Netherlands four days later.
