It’s time: Anderlecht and Manchester City on Wednesday reached an agreement on the transfer of Sergio Gomez. The 21-year-old Spaniard is leaving Purple & White after just one season. The transfer fee is approximately 15 million euros, and with bonuses it can go up to just over 20 million euros. Anderlecht also stipulated a percentage on resale.
On Wednesday, Anderlecht and Manchester City sat around the table again to discuss transfer fees. RSCA was previously unhappy with an offer of around €10m, but in City they wanted to go a little further. The clubs reached an agreement on Wednesday. Citizens pay Anderlecht a fixed amount of close to 15 million euros, via bonuses that can go up to more than 20 million euros. If Gomez is sold in the future, the purple and white will go through the payment process again.
Great thing for Anderlecht, who took over from Borussia Dortmund last summer for 1.5 million euros. The Germans are still entitled to 15% of the capital gains, for €2 million. It was Vincent Kompany who absolutely wanted him as a left-back at the time, and it worked out well: in all competitions, the Spaniard provided seven goals and fifteen assists. Excellent grades.
This afternoon to Manchester
Gomez is no longer in the pick for Thursday night’s match against Paide Linnameeskond. The Spaniard will travel to Barcelona on Thursday afternoon and then to Manchester, where he will sign a contract for four or five seasons. Where it initially seemed that the Spaniard would be loaned to Girona, he will now get his chance at City. Thanks to its versatility, it fits in with coach Pep Guardiola’s plans.
A striking detail is that Per Guardiola, a brother, works for the real estate agency that Sergio Gomez has in his portfolio (SEG).
