Russia and Belarus hold joint military exercises “with focus on urban warfare” | Ukraine and Russia war

Russian Air Force planes arrived in Belarus today. All airports and training areas of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense will participate in the exercises.

The TV channel of the Belarusian Ministry reported earlier that neighboring countries have stepped up their joint military training, based on Moscow’s experience fighting in Ukraine with an emphasis on urban warfare. The ministry said that the joint military units in Belarus have been reinforced with weapons, soldiers and specialized equipment.

Ukrainian officials and Western observers have speculated for months that Moscow might once again use its ally’s territory as a launching pad for another assault on Ukraine from the north. Minsk allowed Russia to send troops from Belarus into Ukraine at the beginning of the invasion on 24 February.

Russia is an important ally of Belarusian President Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994. He said in November that a direct deployment of the Belarusian army in Ukraine was out of the question. “If we are directly involved in this conflict with the armed forces and soldiers, we are not contributing anything, we are only making it worse.”
