Another Russian oligarch died under suspicious circumstances. The body of 49-year-old Igor Shchurko was found in Yakutsk prison on Tuesday. The former CEO of the energy company Yakutskenergo has been accused of bribery. One day before his death, Shkurko appealed this decision.

Shkurko was a member of the pro-Putin United Russia party, but was suspended after allegations of bribery. The cause of death has not yet been reported. “On April 4, the suspect was found in a cell of the pre-trial detention center without any trace of life,” the Russian authorities’ statement read. An investigation team has been called to the scene. According to preliminary data, no signs of a criminal death were found.
Shkurko is by no means the only Russian few to have died recently under suspicious circumstances. Since the invasion of Ukraine 13 months ago, dozens of top executives in Russian companies have perished. The cause of death associated with death is often shrouded in mystery.
The 48-year-old victim is married and has two sons.
