Russian skater Kamila Valigeva has been banned for four years for doping. This is what the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) decided. As a result, the Russian team – with Valigeva – loses its gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing. At the upcoming Games in Italy, 17-year-old Valeeva could compete against Luena Hendricks and Nina Pinzaroni.
A look at the facts: Kamila Valigeva tested positive in December 2021 during the Russian National Championships.
The result was not announced until February 8, 2022, one day after she won the team competition with the Russian national team at the Beijing Olympics.
The Lausanne court said in a statement: “Kamila Valigeva was found guilty of violating the anti-doping rules and was suspended for 4 years, starting from December 25, 2021.”
The court added that all competition results since that date have been annulled, including the gold medal that Russia helped win in the team competition at the 2022 Olympics.
Valigeva's suspension expires at the end of 2025. In principle, the Russian can still compete against Luina Hendricks and Nina Pinzaroni at the Games in Italy, which start on February 6, 2026.
