This was the first auction of a super yacht since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, the authorities have urged a halt to the pursuit of wealthy Russians around the world.
It was not revealed who made the highest bid. The British auction house that organized the auction last month announced the receipt of a total of 63 bids. The ship is said to be priced at around £63 million, and has been converted at more than €74 million. But the expectation was that the yacht would be sold at a lower price.
The 73-meter luxury yacht Axioma includes an infinity-edge pool and a 3D cinema. In March, British protectorate authorities captured Axium in Gibraltar in the far south of Europe.
The ship was hammered after Pampinski failed to repay a loan of more than 21 million euros to US bank JPMorgan Chase. The bank asked Pumpianski to repay the loan after the European Union and the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on him due to the war in Ukraine. As a result, his shares were frozen.
