It was almost written in the stars that the World Cup for the Dutch would end in a series of penalties. Although it turned out differently than what Louis van Gaal had in mind.
Virgil van Dijk, for example, immediately kicked the goalkeeper in the first eleven meters. “It was nice of him to take his responsibility,” said Ruud Vormer confidently. “I just kicked him.”
Van Gaal’s World Cup dream ended with the gloves of Argentina goalkeeper Martinez. “There was more to the Netherlands in this World Cup,” the Dutch coach said. “It wasn’t a great game the whole World Cup.”
“However, the Orange could be happy with the result. Louis van Gaal and his men never lost again.”
Vormer also saw a bright spot in the match against Argentina. His student from Club Brugge, Noa Lang, was allowed to spend his first minutes at the World Cup.
“I called today a little”, Vormer quipped “He’s only 23, isn’t he? Too bad he gets criticized so much from the outside world. He’s a great guy with a good heart, though.”
“I called him a lot during the World Cup. I wished him well this morning and told him I hoped he would play. It was good that that was the case.”
