Complete chaos engulfed a Ryanair flight from Malaga to Milan on July 19. After passengers took their seats, the departure from the Spanish port city was delayed by several hours, leaving the plane on the ground the whole time exposed to the scorching sun.

With a working air conditioning system on board, this was not a problem, but the technology failed. The passengers were trapped in the plane without air conditioning for about three hours. The outside temperature peaked at 42 degrees that day. Pictures on social media show passengers trying to keep calm. According to many witnesses, the airline did nothing and they hardly received any refrigerated drinks.

Some passengers had panic attacks, while others passed out. Only after three hours and the intervention of an ambulance, the passengers were allowed to leave the plane. The flight was eventually delayed by more than twelve hours.

Italian influencer Marco Ferrero who was on the plane thought it was the “worst trip of his life” and is telling his story on TikTok. He explained in the video that at one point he really thought he couldn’t breathe and that something was going to happen to him. “The air conditioning didn’t work because it was connected to another motor that was unloading. It was like being in a steam bath, but the door was locked. But in a sauna you can go out whenever you want. That wasn’t the case here,” said the influencer.

Delay due to a “minor technical problem”

Ryanair responded to the incident, saying the flight was delayed due to a “minor technical issue” with the plane. To avoid lost start time, passengers remained on board while technicians maintained the aircraft. Unfortunately the plane was not released in time causing it to lose its lock and disembark the passengers.”
