S-Class Production Drops: Luxury Car Sales Disappoint

Cod liver oil, vitamin pills, granny’s wet kisses, Brussels sprouts: When we were kids, we didn’t want things that were good for us. Somehow, it’s in our DNA as humans to want things that aren’t the best. How else could McDonald’s be the most successful restaurant chain in the world? And it’s not just food, it’s cars. That’s clear from the news. AutomobileVuchiBecause apparently no one wants to own the best car in the world.

Mercedes S-Class sales figures are under severe pressure. In fact, sales are going so badly that Mercedes has had to seriously cut production at Sindelfingen. The number of cars delivered has already fallen to less than 17,000 units. We don’t yet know the exact details of second-quarter sales figures, but the entire luxury division – including the GLS, EQS and EQS SUV – Go down.

It’s gotten so bad that Mercedes has had to cut production, and not just a little. The S-Class is produced at “Factory 56” in Sindelfingen, where capacity is still far from being reached. This is not only very annoying for Mercedes, but also for suppliers. The cut will be implemented after the summer break at the end of August.

S-Class Production

The segment in which the S-Class operates is not very large anyway. The numbers are relatively low, while the development costs are very high. Not only were these flagships providing additional value to consumers for the rest of the model range, but the profit margins were also enormous. Of the three German cars, the S-Class has always been the most successful. This segment is on the verge of extinction: the Jaguar XJ and Maserati Quattroporte no longer exist.

Although Mercedes is doing less well than it used to, it is still more successful than BMW and Audi in this segment. Brands like Lexus (LS), Porsche (Panamera), and Bentley (Flying Spur) play a supporting role in this very specific market segment.
