Samsung’s new foldable phone will have an OLED screen

For a moment, it looked like the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6’s display had been downgraded from OLED to LCD, but you can breathe a sigh of relief: the upcoming foldable phone simply has an OLED display.

Almost all of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 specs leaked over the weekend, revealing a noticeable downgrade in the display. While the Galaxy Z Flip 5 had an OLED display, its successor will have an IPS LCD panel. According to new information from SamMobile, that information appears to be incorrect; the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will simply have an OLED display.

according to SamMobile Other specs for the display are correct, such as its size of 3.4 inches and its refresh rate of 60 Hz. Information about the upgrades under the hood of the foldable phone, including the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, slightly longer battery life, and variants with 8 and 12 GB of RAM, also remains intact.

“Seven years of updates”

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 run Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1 out of the box. Samsung is expected to have new Galaxy AI features in store for the new foldable phones, which will also come to existing devices with updates at a later date. According to SamMobile, the new phones will be supported with OS and security updates for at least seven years.

On July 10, Samsung will unveil its new foldable phones during its big Unpacked event. It will become clear then whether the leaked information is actually true, or if the company has other surprises in store for the specifications.
