Satellite images remove all doubts: the Russian warship that Moscow said was only “damaged” has actually been destroyed | Ukraine-Russia war

The Ukrainian attack occurred on Tuesday morning in Feodosia in the occupied Crimean Peninsula. Initially, there were reports of explosions in the port city, and soon after it turned out that a Russian landing ship had been hit by missiles. The Ukrainian Air Force claimed responsibility and said the ship was destroyed.

Moscow confirmed the news, but said that Novocherkassk only suffered damage. However, fact-checkers shared photos of where the Novocherkassk ship docked, showing only the shipwreck in black.

New satellite images confirm this, according to research conducted by the New York Times. “The remains of a Russian landing ship in the eastern port of Feodosia can be seen smoking and largely submerged in the Maxar satellite image taken on December 26. The second image is from December 5 for comparison.

At the bottom of the satellite image you can see that a second ship has sunk. It will be a UTS-150, an old training ship. This type was built in the Soviet Union in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

The Russian Defense Ministry's claim that it destroyed two Ukrainian Su-24 fighter jets during the Novocherkassk offensive has since been refuted by Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ahnat. But this has not yet been independently verified.
