Stoltenberg told the British newspaper that the alliance was “going through a very fundamental transformation”, which would reflect “the long-term repercussions” of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions.
“No matter when and how the war in Ukraine ends, the war already has long-term repercussions for our security,” Stoltenberg said. “NATO has to adapt to the new reality and that is exactly what we are doing.”
Defense spending increases
“We must ensure that in a more dangerous world, we are still able to protect and defend all NATO allies,” he told the newspaper. Stoltenberg stated that the transformation must be accompanied by increased spending on national defense by Allied members.
