Thibau Nys will imagine this season’s first spinning world cup differently. His team reported that the 18-year-old Baloise Trek Lions rider fell hard and broke his left collarbone in his Waterloo boat. Nice is now back in Belgium to undergo surgery.
For Nice, the World Cup race at Waterloo was his second circuit cross of the season, having crowned himself European road champion last month. A week ago he was already 12th in the Sueperprestige in Gieten. But on the American show, everything went wrong for the young Belgian. He crashed in the second round, after which he had to leave the race.
There was an immediate fear of a broken collarbone, which was confirmed by x-rays at the hospital. Ness himself posted a photo of the breakup on his Instagram and showed himself fighting back. I’ll come back, he added. The promising rider now travels to Belgium to undergo surgery at AZ Herentals Hospital. It is unknown at this time how long he will be out of action.
