According to Van der Voort, an IC problem would not exist if everyone in the Netherlands had a BMI of less than 25. People with a BMI of 25 or more were overweight. A BMI of 30 or more means you are dangerously overweight. In 2020, nearly 50 percent of Dutch adults were overweight, according to a Health/Lifestyle Monitor survey. 14 percent were dangerously overweight.
According to the National Foundation for the Evaluation of Intensive Care (NICE), about 80 percent of corona patients in the intensive care unit are overweight. The proportion of corona patients in the intensive care unit who are seriously overweight is 40 percent.
