Lionel Messi’s transfer to Inter Miami is complete. After years of planning and perseverance, Inter Miami finally got their hands on the football icon. On Sunday, Messi will be instantly recognized by the Inter Miami fans in the stadium.
The US team announced the news with a hilarious video. Messi says: “Si, mochaco”. Messi signed a contract for 2.5 seasons and will earn between 50 and 60 million dollars annually.
It is not yet known when the Argentine will play his first match for his new team, but in principle it will be possible next Friday. Then Inter Miami will play Mexican Cruz Azul in the League Cup.
“I’m very much looking forward to starting this next step in my career,” Messi said. “This is an amazing opportunity and I want to contribute to this amazing project for Miami. I’m excited to start helping with my new home.”
Co-owner David Beckham was just as happy as the Argentine world star himself. “Ten years ago, when I embarked on this adventure to build a new team in Miami, I dreamed of bringing the best players in the world to this great city. Today that dream has come true.”
“I’m so proud that one of the greatest players ever has chosen this club, but I’m especially happy to welcome a good friend and a wonderful person here. I can’t wait to send Leo onto the pitch.”
