The United States and Simone Biles won the gold medal in the women’s team competition. The American gymnasts were out of the bracket, but behind them Italy and Brazil fought for silver and bronze after an impressive showdown.
The United States had already outclassed the rest of the field in the team heats. No one doubted that Simone Biles and Co. would repeat the feat in the final.
However, don’t count yourself rich too quickly, because mistakes can easily happen. Since the weakest score on each machine is eliminated in the qualifications, you pay cash for every mistake in the final.
No problem for the United States, which dominated the team competition from start to finish. After the first round of four heats, the United States held a nearly two-point lead over the first-place finisher.
Then China came in less good. Zhou managed to avoid his first fall on beam, but was defeated moments later. And on the floor exercise, the Chinese girls scored the lowest of all countries: the medals away from floor.
Italy were second after the first three rounds, but the nerves seemed to have caused them to fall off the podium. Almost, because Angela Andreoli managed to salvage the silver medal with a clever floor exercise.
The bronze went to a surprising Brazil, who jumped from 6th to 3rd in the final round, thanks largely to a brilliant score by Rebecca Andrade on the vault. The victim was Great Britain, who fell just 0.234 points off the podium.
And Simone Biles? After that very exciting finale, he was allowed to end the gymnastics evening with a magnificent floor exercise, as the undisputed headliner of the main gymnastics festival.

As if she were the lead actress, Simone Biles could close out the women’s team final with her floor exercise. Can she add more sparkle to the U.S. gold medal?

With a clever floor exercise, Angela Andreoli gives her country the silver medal! Alice Kinsella is no longer able to make Great Britain vault over Brazil, she comes in fourth.
Angela Andreoli needs 12.836 on floor to secure a medal, and Great Britain already needs 13.834 on beam to overtake Brazil.
Jordan Chiles looks visibly emotional, but also thrilled after her floor exercise. An intense acrobatic workout earned her a 13.966.

Rebecca Andrade scored 15.100 on vault, a fantastic result! Is this the vault that will give Brazil the bronze? It might just be possible!
Alice D’Amato scored a 13.466 on floor, Rebecca Downey scored a 12.933 on beam. Italy gets more breathing room.
Now it’s Alice D’Amato’s turn to do the floor exercise. She’s already starting with an uncertain landing. Will Italy continue to deliver silver?
Sunisa Lee now starts her floor exercise. American girls can practice gymnastics freely, because almost nothing can happen to them. She can definitely go home with 13,533.
Georgia May Fenton does a nice work on the beam. The Brits seemed to have kept their cool in the final round. With 13.566 points, Great Britain suddenly came within 0.465 of Italy.
Manila Esposito is not without fault during her floor exercise, so you have to look back quickly, because the British girls are breathing down their necks.
Rebecca Andrade is only sixth for Brazil, but after the United States it’s all in Mendel’s hands. Can she still push her team to a medal on vault? In qualifications she was at least second on that apparatus.
On beam, Sabrina Voinia may also be able to put something right for the Romanian girls. On floor exercise, the United States could put the icing on the cake, while Italy will struggle to hold on to silver.
