In a joint statement, both managers and record label Chrysalis Records demanded that the former US president and current Republican presidential candidate “immediately stop using her music.” Among other things, she said O'Connor, who was 56, lived by a “fierce moral code” and had previously referred to Trump as “the Bible's devil.”
Moral law
The statement also shows that Sinead O'Connor's moral system was defined by honesty, kindness, fairness and decency towards her fellow human beings. Estate administrators are also angry about Donald Trump's use of the phrase “nothing compares 2 U” at his political rallies. “It is no exaggeration to say that Sinead would be disgusted, hurt and insulted if her work were misrepresented in this way by someone she herself described as a ‘Biblical Devil,'” she said. “As protectors of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates immediately stop using her music.”
O'Connor joins a long list of artists who have asked Trump to stop using their music in his political campaigns, including Rihanna, Neil Young, Linkin Park, the late Tom Petty and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler.
