Figures show that men go to the doctor too little and sometimes too late for prostate and testicular cancer. That’s why urologist Sam Ward calls on men in a viral YouTube video to check themselves more frequently. This action is part of the international Movember campaign.
Sint-Jan Clinic invites young people to a Funny Video Do a self-examination of the testicles every month after bathing. “Then the skin relaxes,” explains urologist Sam Ward. “Men have to look for a lump, increase in size, or something painful to detect cancer.”
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men in Belgium. Early detection is crucial for the disease, because in this way chemotherapy can be avoided. “Treatment for testicular cancer is well developed, with about 98 percent of patients cured, but it remains important to detect it early,” says Ward.

In the video, Ward compares the self-check to the feel of a kiwi in the supermarket. Because of its light tone and lighthearted nature, the film is currently traveling around the country. “I’m glad it’s been shared so much because it’s being talked about now,” Ward concludes.
