Peter Wright

The 2020 World Champion has been an integral part of the world stage for thirteen years now. So literally. Through carnival clothes snake bites, including a mohawk sculpted by his wife Joan and a drawn head (often the head of a snake), you can’t ignore the good-natured Scotsman. That was different in 1995, when he was an amateur at the World Cup in a black shirt. He lost to Richie Burnett and stockpiled his arrows for years. It didn’t slowly re-emerge until 2005, including dressing up.

Wright has been competing in the World Cup Finals since 2009 and his rise has come gradually. He lost in 2009 in the first round to Michelle Van Gerwin, and in recent years Wright has been an almost regular customer on the final table, with his 2020 world title being the most beautiful scalper. Will he be crowned after a fantastic year in the world match – beating Dimitri van den Berg (18-9)?

Michael Smith

Bully Boy, who reached the final at Ally Pally in 2019, was the lowest ranked player in the last four with ninth in the world rankings. But it certainly should not be underestimated. Gerwin Price, who was eliminated by Smith the day before yesterday, has already put Smith among the top favorites.

The Welshman was also allowed to try it. After the wonderful quarter-finals Against Price, Smith swept the floor with fellow countryman James Wade yesterday on the way to his first final in three years. Smith (World Youth Champion in 2013) was already hoping for a final against Gary Anderson. De Schutt was his manager and supervisor for many years between 2013 and 2016. But Smith could retaliate on Anderson’s behalf.
