MovieFive years have passed since the last movie “Pirates of the Caribbean” was released in theaters. Actor Johnny Depp (59) admitted in 2021, during the film festival in San Sebastian, that he would like to take on the role of pirate Jack Sparrow again. But during the lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, 36, he said he would not do it again. Now it appears that talks are underway with Disney. “I want to say goodbye to Jack Sparrow with dignity.”
In an interview with The Times, “The Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that nothing is certain at the moment, but nothing can be ruled out. A defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, led to Depp being blacklisted. He lost his role as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts saga and was removed by Disney from a possible sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Depp himself revealed that he wanted to say goodbye to his character with a “good and generous farewell” but was unable to do so because of the lawsuit and all the allegations. “I intended to continue until the time was right to stop,” the actor added.
A source told Poptopic that the actor is now in talks with Disney. The deal will be around $300 million (€283 million) and a detailed concept will already be on the table. And there’s more. Also for Disney+, they want a movie show, which will be entirely dedicated to famous captain Jack Sparrow.
The source also revealed that Disney is desperate to make amends with Depp after he was dropped when Amber Heard’s allegations were made public. Disney is ready to do everything in its power to impress the actor. In addition to the 300 million, as a goodwill gesture, the company would also like to donate a large amount of money to a charity close to the actor’s heart. But whether the company really knows how to impress the actor remains a question mark.
The sixth movie?
In 2003, the first film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series was released. This was followed by four more films, starring Johnny Depp in the main role. Disney has already dropped in the past that it saw a sixth movie altogether, so now it’s waiting for the movie’s official announcement and confirmation that Johnny Depp will be back aboard his beloved ship, The Black Pearl.
