Bad news for Sonos users who were hoping for the return of the brand’s old speaker app. Sonos CEO Patrick Spence said the old S2 app will not be re-released.
According to Spence, the old Sonos S2 app version was “until recently” seen as a solution for users still having issues with the new app. But on Reddit Responds Sonos’ CEO now says that after testing this option, it became clear that launching the old app would only exacerbate the problems.
“In the months since the launch of the new mobile app, we’ve updated the software running on our speakers and in the cloud to the point where the S2 app is now less reliable and stable than before,” Spence said. “After extensive testing, we’ve concluded that re-releasing S2 would make the issues worse, not better. I’m sure that’s disappointing. It was disappointing for me.”
Problems with the new Sonos app
Sonos launched its new app in May, and it was well received by users. The new app was missing a number of commonly used features. Users have also been complaining about numerous bugs in the app for months.
Spence apologized a few weeks ago and promised that the company would focus entirely on improving the app in the near future. As a result, the launch of two new Sonos products has been postponed.
