Space, smart storage and intuitive technology: the all-electric Volvo EX30 represents the best of Scandinavian D – Automotive News

The all-electric Volvo EX30 was designed not only with greater safety and sustainability in mind, but also to make customers’ lives easier, more convenient, and more enjoyable through advanced technology and thoughtful Scandinavian design.

Volvo’s new compact SUV features a stylish interior that embraces sustainable thinking, while carefully crafted combinations of materials enhance the interior’s distinct graphic design. With recycled and renewable materials like denim, linen and wool, and a variety of expressive colors and textures, the entire interior design revolves around responsible design.

The Volvo EX30 delivers a user experience that intelligently removes complexity. This provides driving with more focus and pleasure, on just one screen. In addition, features such as a host of smart in-car storage ideas along with full-width speakers on the dashboard provide an unusually large car experience in a compact form.

Excellent sound quality

The Volvo EX30’s loudspeakers, the first of their kind, are inspired by home audio design. It combines several speakers into one and fills the entire cabin with excellent sound. In combination with the high-end Harman Kardon audio system, the customer can listen to their favorite music and podcasts with excellent sound quality.

The amplifier is a great example of clever design, assembling the speakers into a single component and reducing the amount of wires and materials. At first glance, you wouldn’t even notice it, as it sits below the windshield and is seamlessly integrated into the cockpit design. But since no in-door speakers are needed, there’s a lot more storage space. In the same vein, Volvo has moved the window switches to the center console, making them easier to reach for both driver and passenger.

These and other examples represent a broader principle of centrality in the Volvo EX30. The glove box has been moved and is located below the center display. This means that it is now easier for both driver and passenger to access, using the extra space provided by the flat floor.

The center console is very versatile, with a sliding system that allows you to decide exactly how the space is used. The top of the cup holder can slide to hold a coffee or smartphone, or slide back to create more storage space. The lower tunnel has protective storage for small items like sunglasses or earplugs, and a bag can fit in the large open space above.

The rear passengers are also not forgotten when it comes to comfort. They can store their phones in special pockets in the front seat backrests, while a handy storage compartment slides under the center console. A handy size table is included in the tailgate, which works perfectly when you’re looking for a flat piece of furniture and aren’t sure if this new table will fit you.

Create a sense of space

The theme of centralization in the Volvo EX30 is also represented by the 12.3-inch central screen in the center of the dashboard, which contains all relevant information for the driver. Putting everything on one screen can create a sense of space around the driver as well as save material.

“In the Volvo EX30 we continue our strategy of contextual and targeted interfaces,” says Tom Stovicek, Head of UX. “On the single screen, important driving information such as speed and charge level are displayed prominently across the top, with navigation, media and controls below that are easily seen and accessed. We’ve also included a contextual bar that gives you features for your needs at any given time.”

The center display also provides a “quiet” display, which removes all but the most important information for extra focus. This feature is especially useful at night as it can reduce eye strain while driving long distances.

In keeping with Volvo’s ambition to offer cutting-edge media and entertainment, the Volvo EX30 is equipped with Google Assistant’s built-in hands-free Google Assistant, Google Maps navigation and favorite apps on Google Play. The EX30 is also the first Volvo to come with wireless Apple CarPlay functionality.

The infotainment system also comes with 5G where available. Powered by the Snapdragon® Cockpit Platforms from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., this premium in-car experience will be as ultra-responsive as one would expect.

Volvo Cars has worked closely with ECARX through the HaleyTek joint venture to deliver the best possible infotainment platform worldwide.

Choice of four different interior spaces

When choosing the new Volvo EX30, the customer can choose from four different interior spaces. They take a more sustainable approach to materials and each has its own expression. For example, one interior space embraces the timeless appeal of denim and features waste products from the denim recycling process.

Other materials on display include recycled plastic, made from waste such as old window frames and blinds; flax, a renewable fiber sourced from linseed plants and provided by investment firm Bcomp to the Volvo Cars Technology Fund; Responsible fleece blend with 70% recycled polyester and knit construction material that contains recycled plastic.

The Volvo EX30 also offers the option of upholstery in Nordeco, a progressive and technologically advanced material made from textiles made from recyclable materials such as PET bottles and organic matter from forests in Sweden and Finland.
