After the departure of coach Ronny Deila and a few strong players, Standard began a new chapter this summer. But at the moment it is by no means a success. After five rounds of matches, the Rouches are already camped in the relegation zone with a very disappointing result of 2 out of 15.
To accommodate Deila’s departure to Club Brugge, Standard selected Karl Hofkens as the new head coach. Then he got a famous name as an assistant alongside him, so Yaya Toure was also brought to Sklesen. But at the moment, this duo has not succeeded in getting the team started with the desired results.
Reinforcement is necessary
However, in this case, it would be all too easy to blame the coaching staff for this malaise. After all, the general conclusion is that the standard has a very low quality in its selection. The departure of key players such as Philipp Zinkernagel has not been adequately understood. Among the planned acquisitions, there are only a few that can handle the level required at the present time.
However, the question is whether there are enough resources to get a lot of reinforcements at the end of the market. The American owners do not appear to be planning or able to open the money bag significantly. However, some extra space was made available in the current crop of players on Wednesday. After all, Standard announced Osher Davida’s departure through official channels.
Return home
The Israeli striker/playmaker was received from Hapoel Tel Aviv in the summer of 2022. But in Liège, Davida was severely disappointed. After just one year, the 21-year-old decided to return to his homeland. He signed a multi-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv on Wednesday. Davida will reportedly raise another €1.4 million, part of which could be used to further boost the selection.
