Spain wants to join the genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice

The case of genocide committed by South Africa against Israel in the International Court of Justice

At the end of last year, South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, the highest court in the United Nations.

South Africa accuses Israel of violating the Genocide Convention during its military attack on the Gaza Strip.

The International Court of Justice has not yet decided on the merits of the case. This may take years. But at the end of January, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take all possible measures to avoid genocide.

In March, the International Court of Justice issued a second interim ruling, ordering Israel to urgently allow more emergency humanitarian aid into Gaza.

At the end of May, the International Court of Justice issued a third interim ruling in this case. The International Court of Justice then ordered Israel to stop its attack on Rafah. The International Court of Justice also asks Israel to open the Rafah border crossing so that humanitarian aid can enter the area again.

The International Court of Justice is not the same as the International Criminal Court. This could put individuals on trial for war crimes. The International Court of Justice adjudicates disputes between states.
