“I’m currently in talks with Netflix about seasons two and three,” Huang told KBS in an interview. “We will make a decision soon.” This is the first time that Hwang has talked about a possible third season of the popular series.
At first, Hwang said, “Just thinking about a second season was exhausting.” He worked for over ten years in season one and didn’t want to do it again right away. But later it was confirmed that the series will indeed receive a sequel.
Hwang previously announced that he has different ideas for the second season of ‘Squid Game’. If a third season follows, he will have the opportunity to develop many of these ideas. It is already known that lead actor Lee Jung-jae (Seong Gi-hun) will be returning in Season 2. Hwang compares Gi-hun’s situation to that of Front Man (Lee Byung-hun): “He was also a winner, but then he became the front man. He’s like Darth Vader in Star Wars.” Some become Jedi and some become Darth Vader, Alice Also? I think maybe Ji Hoon is going through a certain focal point wherever the test site is.”
It is not yet known when the second and third seasons will be released.
