The folds were settled between Tadej Pogacar (23) and Dylan van Baarle (29) the day after the Tour of Flanders. Pojacar, who finished fourth on Sunday, was so angry with Van Barley (second place) right after the finish that the Dutchman was going to shut him out. Frustration is rare among Slovenes, but it is short-lived.
“I don’t remember exactly what the Pogacar told me,” Dylan Van Barley himself said on the “Live Slow Ride Fast” podcast by former cyclist Laurens Ten Dam. “He thought I had deviated from my line and locked him up on purpose, but he was probably frustrated that he screwed himself up. I was probably the first person he met after the end.”
On Monday, Van Barley received a surprise message in his inbox. “The next day he texted me right away. ‘Sorry, but I was frustrated and give you the stage’he wrote. He didn’t have my phone number, but he sent via Instagram. “That was really cool,” Van Barley said.
On Sunday Van Barel will start the Amstel Gold Race. For Tadej Pogacar, the next race is usually only April 20th: The Walloon Arrow. Four days later, he also started in Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
