Telecommunication provider T-Mobile and space company SpaceX will work together in the US. To provide wireless connectivity in currently limited areas.
By our technical editorsA new version of Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet, will be launched next year. The space agency will design special antennas for the links. These are placed on Internet satellites so that T-Mobile customers can connect.
Satellites are launched into space when SpaceX’s Starship rocket launches. The missile is currently being developed.
According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the connections should be good enough to send text and photo messages as well as small video files. He pointed out that the system will be activated within half an hour to exchange such messages.
According to Musk, the connection should also work in extreme weather such as hurricanes. These usually damage mobile phone towers. According to Musk, the connections could save the lives of people stranded somewhere in a borderless space.
Users may have to pay extra
T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert said customers who already have one of the popular Starlink subscriptions can use the service for free. Customers with cheaper plans may have to pay extra.
Musk also immediately invited other telecom providers to collaborate with Starling. The goal is to make connections work in space as well. “We want T-Mobile on Mars,” Musk said.
Musk later wrote on Twitter that Teslas will eventually be able to use the computer so they can send messages or make calls in the event of an emergency.
