Russian-French Pavel Sivakov won the Giro della Toscana (1.1). The Ineos-Grenadiers rider rode uphill in the final against Tadej Pogacar and then won the day’s victory battle over Richard Carapaz. It is his first win this season.
In Tuscany there were many eyes on Tadej Pogacar. The Slovenian returned to the peloton after the World Cup. But he doesn’t seem to be at his best yet because on the second ascent of Mont Serra he had to let Sivakov ride. He was also unable to keep the carapaz wheel.
Then he tried, with the help of his colleague Grosschartner, to return to the lead of the race, but that did not succeed. Pogacar ran completely empty and eventually had to let his teammate drive towards third.
So Sivakov and Karapaz competed with two to win the stage. The 26-year-old Frenchman pulled away from the Ecuadorian a kilometer and a half from the finish and continued his effort.
Sivakov succeeds Swiss Marc Hirschi on the honor list.
