For six seasons, actress Taraji P. Henson played the foul-mouthed and scheming Cookie Lyonne on Fox's much-discussed series “Empire.” She originally thought she would be offered several new roles after “Empire” was canceled in 2020, but that turned out to not be the case at all. Her team also stopped making any progress, and Hensen firmly guided them to the door.

“Where's my deal? Who's promoting me? Cookie's character was on top of the world. What about me?”, the actress said during the interview. “That's why you haven't seen me for a long time. My team stopped making any effort, so I didn't have any other plans,” she also explained.
After a second chance for the entire team, Henson decided it was time to let everyone go, and concluded by saying, “You're all fired,” to applause from the audience.

It was initially announced by Variety in 2020 that Cookie Lyon would be making it herself spin off It will get to star Taraji P. Henson, of course. Unfortunately, not a word has been said about it since. Or that spin off It hasn't arrived yet, so it's not sure yet.
Henson will appear in the remake of The Color Purple in early 2024.
