Bad news for French football fans. While the French Professional League wanted to secure a €1 billion TV deal for the broadcast rights to French professional football, only half of that amount remains. This has serious consequences for French football fans.
From now on, they will have to pay at least €45 for two different subscriptions, Het Laatste Nieuws reports. The newspaper wonders aloud whether this could have consequences for Belgian fans. The media rights for the Jupiler Pro League will soon be back on the market.
The Belgian competition is currently worth €103 million. The sports streaming platform DAZN will own the broadcasting rights for next season. From next year, these rights will be issued and sold again. Sports marketing expert Koen Bauens fears the worst.
“I think it would be great if the current contract could be matched,” he told HLN. However, JPL also has its advantages: “It has always been exciting in recent years. Different clubs can win trophies.” Bauwens hopes the values will remain fairly stable, although he also fears that Belgian fans, like French fans, will have to pay more for their subscriptions.
