The car show opened to the public last Saturday and closes at 7 pm on Sunday. Up front, it was targeting 300,000 visitors, but with over 265,000, that header didn’t even round.
“This makes the Auto Show the most popular indoor event in Belgium. We have welcomed around 30,000 people a day,” says Gabriel Jovoy, Director of Vibiac and the Motor Show. “With the current constellation (in Six Palaces in the Brussels Gallery, ed.) This is the limit, it must remain interesting to people.”
The auto show was advertised as the “Green Car Show,” says Jovoy. “Of the 400 cars here, 200 are electrified. Seven Chinese brands (out of sixty in total, ed.) were also present for the first time. This ensures healthy price competition for consumers, along with saloon conditions.”
Currently, companies are especially interested in electric cars, for individuals, the purchase price is often very high. “There is a need for structural financial support from the government, such as in the construction sector,” said Jovoi. It was surprising to the director that more and more young people were finding their way into the salon. “In addition, people are really interested in eco-cars.”
Climate activists Extinction Rebellion hijacked seven large billboards and 70 posters at bus shelters in Brussels last week during the motor show. To tackle greenwashing by BMW and Toyota. “The stickers were also put up at the auto show,” says Jovoy. “We’re open to other opinions, as long as you stay peaceful. But you don’t make a difference with a sticker on the toilet.”
