After part of the cast and crew of “Thuis” went on National Labor Day last week, they are starting work again today. They feel they still haven’t received an answer to their questions about the future of soap. After all, VRT plans to outsource series production.
The public broadcaster has made some major changes in recent weeks. One of those new plans is to reduce production residence It will be outsourced to an external production company from next year. A decision can be based on a little understanding of the cast and crew.
Last week, several actors and members of the technical staff went on strike at the entrance to the VRT building, because they still didn’t know which production house they would end up with in a month and a half before the planned move. By Thursday morning, they wanted to clear this up, straight from management.
This clarity is still lacking after the meeting, apparently in a press release from the unions. That’s why the team stopped working again. Nor would they have been given a guarantee that their working conditions would remain in the new system. In recent weeks, a petition against the upcoming changes has been circulated and signed by 34,000 people. Next Monday, the socialist trade union ACOD-VRT and Christian ACV VRT want this petition to be handed over to Benjamin Dahl (CD&V), the Flemish Minister of Information.
