The court sentenced a Dutch owner of two biting dogs to more severe imprisonment on appeal outside

A Dutch court sentenced the owner of two American bulldogs that bit a 14-year-old boy to four months in prison. Half of them are conditional, with a probationary period of ten years. During the probation period, women are no longer allowed to keep dogs.

According to the court, the dogs were neither tied nor muzzled when they attacked a 14-year-old boy in an industrial area in Nieuwegen, near Utrecht, Netherlands on May 19, 2022. This boy was on a bike, was struck by the dogs and was bitten by both dogs. As a result, he suffered 41 open bite wounds, and he was treated in hospital and sustained permanent injuries. “He will be scarred for life,” the court ruling states.

The sentence imposed is much higher than the sentence handed down by the police judge in Utrecht. In April this year, the woman was given a two-week suspended prison sentence and 120 hours of community service. The 59-year-old woman appealed this ruling.

The court in Arnhem ruled that the woman had not adequately controlled her dogs. She thus acted “extremely negligently and negligently.”

Dogs have previously attacked and bitten a person. Based on previous events, the court finds that the woman should have been more alert and cautious.
