A powerful transition in Belgian women’s football has officially been completed. Golden boot Nicky Evrard will leave OH Leuven at the end of this season and play for Chelsea, the club he admires. The news has been in the air for weeks, but has now been confirmed by Chelsea themselves.
The OH Leuven and Red Flames goalkeeper saw her contract expire at the end of this season and she now has a major transfer. I signed a contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2026 and will start there from next season.
“This is really crazy, dreams come true,” Evrard says at her new team site. “I am very happy, excited and honored to play for a club like Chelsea. I hope to take my achievements from the European Football Championship there and contribute something to the team. That is the big goal. Chelsea wants to win titles and that is my ambition as well.”
“Nikki will be a great addition to our team, she definitely showed her talent at the last European Championships,” said coach Emma Hayes. Chelsea have already pulled Everard’s sleeve after that European Championship, but the transfer has yet to take place. “Being involved in a full-time professional environment will help her take the next steps.”
